Entries received from both Competitive couples and Partnership excluded was very pleasing, although some events had to be cancelled.
Partnership excluded events provided budding dancers with the opportunity to compete, but as usual the females far outnumbered the males. All competitors had taken considerable care with their appearance.
Juvenile & junior events were well supported. The Juveniles struggling both with the timing and technique, particularly in the Latin sectionThe venue whilst warm and bright, lacked atmosphere due to the ceiling height and the fact that it is a sports hall. The yellow lighting being both harsh on the colour of the dresses and the judges eyes
Adult 'B' modern was improved from the last competition but still foot faults were common that should not appear at this level
After the partnership excluded and Juvenile prize giving the hall emptied and little atmosphere remained. We must look at new ways of keeping the public interest so that our industry does not die a slow death.
Some female dancers in the Juvenile ranks need to check the new rules re dress, especially in the Latin Section
It is a pity in higher grade events such as 'A' Modern that the men adopt the use of unnecessary facial expressions whilst most of the Ladies look like they wish they were somewhere else
Moving to the higher grade Latin events, such as 'B' & 'A', I am amazed at the lack of balance and problems with timing
In the 'E' & 'D' grades these would not have been run if it were not for the support of the senior dancers. Again we must find new ways of introducing new blood
Overall the Competition was well run finishing 20 minutes ahead of time. The New Zealand Federation of Dance Teachers should be pleased with the support and will have made a profit. My main concern is moving forward and finding ways to make these events more exciting for all concerned and introducing more people to Competitive dancing
